1979 Topps #645 George Scott

About George Scott
Back trouble and a broken finger on his throwing hand interrupted Scott's 1978 season with Boston. He went 2-for-4 with a double in the division tiebreaker against New York and finished the season with a .233 average. His Red Sox card for 1979 was #645.
George Scott played first base for fourteen major league seasons with Boston, Milwaukee, Kansas City and the Yankees. Nicknamed Boomer, he won eight Gold Gloves and collected 1,992 hits. He finished with a .268 average, 271 home runs and 1,051 RBI. Boston signed him out of Coleman High School in Greenville, Mississippi, in 1962. He won the Eastern League Triple Crown at Pittsfield in 1965, batting .319 with 25 home runs and 94 RBI before reaching the majors the next spring. After his major league career, Scott played and managed in Mexico and managed several independent clubs, ending with the Berkshire Black Bears in 2002. The Red Sox inducted him into their team Hall of Fame in 2006.
