1979 Topps #684 Jamie Easterly

About Jamie Easterly
Easterly missed the Braves' Opening Day roster in 1979 and went to Richmond. He was recalled in late May and made four relief appearances (13.50 ERA). Loaned to the Denver Bears, he started 13 of 20 games and threw a seven-inning perfect game against Iowa on July 14. The Expos bought him in a waiver deal on October 22. His card #684 still shows him with Atlanta.
Jamie Easterly was a 5-foot-9 left-hander who pitched 13 major league seasons for the Atlanta Braves, Milwaukee Brewers and Cleveland Indians. The Braves took him in the second round of the 1971 draft out of Crockett, Texas, where he had struck out 231 in 111 innings as a high school senior. Injuries, among them a fungo-bat knee, arm trouble and elbow surgery, slowed him through the 1970s, and Atlanta used him in both rotation and bullpen without keeping him. Converted to full-time relief at Denver in 1980, he reached Milwaukee in 1981 and posted a 3.19 ERA over 62 innings in 44 games, with two postseason appearances against the Yankees. A June 1983 trade sent him to Cleveland with Gorman Thomas and Ernie Camacho, and he stayed through 1987, when rotator cuff surgery ended his career. He finished 23-33 with a 4.62 ERA in 321 games.
