1979 Topps #611 Jim Norris

About Jim Norris
Norris played 124 games for Cleveland in 1979, 93 of them in the outfield. He batted .246 with 3 home runs and 30 RBI. He also scored 50 runs and stole 15 bases. His card in the 1979 Topps set is #611, listing him with the Indians.
Jim Norris was a left-handed outfielder who played four major league seasons, three with the Cleveland Indians and one with the Texas Rangers, and who played all three outfield positions. A Brooklyn native who graduated from Seaford High School, he was drafted by the White Sox in 1967 but chose the University of Maryland, where he was a three-time All-ACC outfielder. He played summer ball for the Orleans Cardinals of the Cape Cod League and was league MVP in 1969, leading it with a .415 average. The Reds picked him in the second round in 1970 without signing him, and Cleveland took him in the fifth round of 1971. He reached the majors in 1977 and hit .270 with 26 stolen bases in 133 games. A multi-player trade sent him to Texas before the 1980 season, and he spent 1981 at Triple-A Wichita before retiring. He was named to the ACC's 50th anniversary baseball team in 2002 and entered the Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame in 2004.
