1979 Topps #297 Ted Sizemore

About Ted Sizemore
Sizemore broke his hand on April 28, 1978, on a play at second base with San Diego's Gene Richards and was sidelined until the end of June. He batted .219 in 108 games, then hit .385 with a triple in the NLCS loss to the Dodgers. Card #297 still lists the Phillies, though he went to the Cubs in a trade before the 1979 season.
Ted Sizemore was a second baseman who spent twelve big-league seasons with the Dodgers, Cardinals, Phillies, Cubs and Red Sox from 1969 to 1980. Drafted by Los Angeles in 1966 out of the University of Michigan, he broke in splitting time at shortstop and second base and won the National League Rookie of the Year award in 1969. Traded to St. Louis after the 1970 season, he settled in as an everyday second baseman and batted .282 with 54 RBIs in 1973. He later returned to the Dodgers, then joined the Phillies for two playoff runs against his old club in the 1977 and 1978 National League Championship Series. He closed his career with the Cubs and the Red Sox. A contact hitter, Sizemore finished with a .262 career batting average over 1,411 games. After retiring he spent more than two decades with Rawlings Sporting Goods.
