About Rawly Eastwick

A 1978 that began with a Yankees contract ended in Philadelphia, and his 1979 card, #271, shows him with the Phillies. Steinbrenner signed him despite warnings that he was not throwing well, and he appeared in eight games for New York, mostly in garbage time. He finished 4-2 with a 3.74 ERA in 30 games between the two clubs and threw one inning in the 1978 NLCS against the Dodgers. In May 1979 at Wrigley Field he threw two perfect innings in a 23-22 win over the Cubs.

Rawly Eastwick was a right-handed relief pitcher who saved 22 games as a rookie for the 1975 Cincinnati Reds and led the National League with 26 more in 1976. A third-round Reds draft pick in 1969 out of Haddonfield, New Jersey, he debuted on September 12, 1974, and the first batter he faced was Hank Aaron. He won two games and saved a third in the 1975 World Series, and in 1976 he took the Rolaids Relief Man Award and Fireman of the Year honors as Cincinnati swept the Yankees. A contract dispute sent him to St. Louis for Doug Capilla on June 15, 1977, and that December he signed a five-year deal with the Yankees. The Yankees traded him to the Phillies on June 14, 1978, for Jay Johnstone and Bobby Brown. He pitched for Kansas City in 1980 and the Cubs in 1981. Away from the mound he painted landscapes and still lifes in pastels and watercolors, and once gave Johnny Bench one of his works as a wedding present.
