About Antoine Carr
The very first card in 1988-89 Fleer is also Antoine Carr's rookie card — remarkably, it arrived four full seasons into his NBA career. The 1983 Missouri Valley Player of the Year at Wichita State went eighth overall to Detroit in the 1983 Draft, but a contract standoff sent him to Milan of the Italian League for a year before Atlanta, which had acquired his rights, brought him home in 1984. The burly 6-9 power forward gave the Hawks six seasons of interior muscle, peaked at 20.1 points per game with Sacramento in 1990-91, and became a beloved sixth man on Utah's 1997 and 1998 Finals teams, drilling clutch jumpers in the Jazz's Game 5 win over Chicago in '98. Nicknamed "Big Dawg" for the rottweiler his father gave him for protection as a kid, Carr barked and woofed through 16 seasons, 987 games, and 9,176 points — trademark tinted protective glasses and all.
