1952 Topps #112 Hank Majeski

About Hank Majeski
Henry "Heeney" Majeski (born December 13, 1916, in Staten Island, New York; died there August 9, 1991) was a right-handed third baseman nicknamed "Heeney" since childhood. He entered pro ball in 1935 with the Eau Claire Bears and won the 1937 Three-I League batting title before reaching the majors in 1939. Over 13 seasons (1939-1955) he played for seven clubs — the Boston Bees/Braves, Yankees, Philadelphia Athletics, White Sox, Cleveland Indians, and Baltimore Orioles — batting .279 with 956 hits, 57 home runs, and 501 RBI in 1,069 games. His finest year came in 1948 with Philadelphia: .310, 12 homers, and 120 RBI, good for 11th in AL MVP voting. A slick fielder, he posted a .988 mark at third base in 1947 and on August 27, 1948, set an AL record with six doubles in a doubleheader. With the 1954 pennant-winning Indians, he belted a pinch-hit three-run homer in Game 4 of the World Series. This card is a series-2 issue (#81-250) of the landmark first Topps flagship set.
