About Brooklyn Dodgers Team
The Brooklyn Dodgers of the mid-1950s were the National League's dominant club and one of baseball's most beloved teams, the "Boys of Summer" of Roger Kahn's later book. Built around future Hall of Famers Jackie Robinson, Duke Snider, Roy Campanella and Pee Wee Reese, plus Gil Hodges, Don Newcombe and Carl Furillo, Brooklyn won back-to-back pennants in 1952 and 1953, the latter behind a club-record 105 wins. In 1955, managed by Walter Alston, the Dodgers went 98-55 (finishing 13.5 games ahead) and finally captured the franchise's first World Series title, beating the crosstown Yankees in seven games as Johnny Podres blanked New York 2-0 in Game 7 to earn the first World Series MVP; catcher Roy Campanella took his third NL MVP. This card celebrates that champion. In 1956 Brooklyn repeated as NL pennant winners, with Newcombe claiming the inaugural Cy Young Award and NL MVP. Like other second-series cards, #166 exists with white (scarcer) and gray back stock.

Every card #1-180 exists with the reverse printed on white/cream card stock OR on gray card stock. Cards #181-340 are gray-back only. The scarcity FLIPS at #100: on cards 1-100 the gray back is slightly scarcer (a modest premium); on cards 101-180 the gray backs are far more common (about 12-15 to 1), so the WHITE back is the scarce, premium variation - often +50% or more, and disproportionately so in high grade, since the white-stock cards tend to be more brittle.
- White Back: Printed on white/cream card stock. The standard/common look on cards 1-100; the SCARCE, premium variation on cards 101-180.
- Gray Back: Printed on gray card stock. The scarcer variation on cards 1-100 (modest premium); the common look on cards 101-180; the ONLY back on cards 181-340.
