About Randy Jackson

Ransom Joseph "Handsome Ransom" Jackson was a right-handed third baseman born February 10, 1926, in Little Rock, Arkansas. A standout college football halfback who played in Cotton Bowl Classics for TCU and Texas, he signed with the Chicago Cubs in 1947 and debuted May 2, 1950. Anchoring third base in Chicago, Jackson earned back-to-back National League All-Star selections in 1954 and 1955. Prized for that steady production, he was traded to the Brooklyn Dodgers before 1956 as a potential heir to the aging Jackie Robinson at third. He remained with the franchise through its final Brooklyn season, and on September 28, 1957, hit the last home run in Brooklyn Dodgers history. Jackson later played for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Cleveland Indians before a 1959 return to Chicago. Over 10 seasons he batted .261 with 835 hits, 103 home runs, and 415 RBI. He died March 20, 2019, at age 93.
