1957 Topps #180 Gus Bell
Uncorrected error: Was part of a 4-man trade, not three. It was never corrected, so there is only one version of the card.
The #176 "Bakep" error: the back header reads "EUGENF W. BAKEP," the whole name garbled on the printing plate. It is the ONLY error Topps corrected in 1957, which is why the error back carries the premium — a PSA population near 215, topping out at PSA 8.

About Gus Bell
David Russell "Gus" Bell Jr. (1928-1995) picked up his nickname as a boy idolizing catcher Gus Mancuso. The Louisville native reached the majors with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1950 after tearing up the minors, and on June 4, 1951 he hit for the cycle against the Phillies. Traded to Cincinnati in October 1952, the outfielder blossomed into a four-time National League All-Star (1953, 1954, 1956, 1957), driving in 105 runs with 30 homers in 1953 and hitting .308 with 104 RBI in 1955. He anchored the Redlegs' "wrecking crew" and reached the 1961 World Series before finishing with the expansion Mets and Braves. Bell retired with 206 home runs, 942 RBI and a .281 average, founding a rare three-generation big-league family through son Buddy and grandsons David and Mike. This card carries a documented error: its back describes his Cincinnati trade as three players when it actually involved four.
