About Wally Post
Walter Charles "Wally" Post (1929-1982) signed with the Cincinnati Reds at 16, entering pro ball as a pitcher in 1946 before converting to the outfield in 1948. A right-handed-hitting right fielder, he debuted in September 1949 and became a regular by 1954. His best season came in 1955, when he hit .309 with career highs of 40 home runs and 109 RBIs, then added 36 homers in 1956 as the Reds tied a record with 221 team home runs. Traded to the Phillies in December 1957, he later returned to Cincinnati and helped the 1961 club win its first pennant since 1940, batting .333 in the World Series loss to the Yankees. Nicknamed the "best-dressed Red" for the free suits he won by hitting the "Hit Sign Win Suit" laundry billboard at Crosley Field, Post retired with a .266 average, 210 home runs, and 699 RBIs over 15 seasons and entered the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame in 1965. This card shows him in his Redlegs prime, just before the Philadelphia trade.
