About the 1957 Kansas City Athletics

The 1957 Kansas City Athletics finished 59-94, seventh in the American League and 38 1/2 games behind the pennant-winning New York Yankees. It was the franchise's third season in Kansas City after owner Arnold Johnson bought the club and moved it from Philadelphia for 1955; the team played at Municipal Stadium, a converted former Yankees farm park. Lou Boudreau managed until he was fired on August 4 with the A's in last place, and Harry Craft took over for the rest of the year. First baseman Vic Power, slugger Gus Zernial and outfielder Bob Cerv were among the roster's better-known names. The Kansas City years became notorious for a steady flow of talent to New York, as many of the A's best young players were traded to the Yankees.
