1957 Topps #167 Vic Power
Uncorrected error: Born in '27, not '31. It was never corrected, so there is only one version of the card.
The #176 "Bakep" error: the back header reads "EUGENF W. BAKEP," the whole name garbled on the printing plate. It is the ONLY error Topps corrected in 1957, which is why the error back carries the premium — a PSA population near 215, topping out at PSA 8.

About Vic Power
Victor Felipe Pellot (Pové) was born November 1, 1927, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico (his 1957 Topps card errantly lists 1931). He earned the surname "Power" from a first-grade teacher who mangled his mother's maiden name, and adopted "Vic Power" professionally in Drummondville, Quebec, where crowds laughed at "Pellot," which resembled French-Canadian slang. A Yankees prospect who tore up the minors (a .349, 217-hit season for the Kansas City Blues in 1953), Power was infamously passed over by New York, whose executives deemed him not "the Yankee type," and was traded to the Athletics. He debuted in 1954 and starred through 1965 for the Philadelphia/Kansas City Athletics, Cleveland Indians, Minnesota Twins, Los Angeles/California Angels, and Phillies. A flashy one-handed-fielding first baseman, he won seven consecutive Gold Gloves (from 1958) and made multiple All-Star teams, hitting .319 in 1955. On August 14, 1958, he stole home twice in one game. He retired with a .284 average, 1,716 hits, 126 homers, and 658 RBIs, and died in 2005.
