About the 1957 Milwaukee Braves

The 1957 Milwaukee Braves gave their new city its only World Series championship. Under manager Fred Haney, the Braves went 95–59 and won the National League pennant by eight games over the St. Louis Cardinals, then toppled the New York Yankees in a seven-game World Series, with Lew Burdette winning three complete games — two of them shutouts — to earn Series MVP honors. Hank Aaron took NL MVP, hitting .322 while leading the league with 44 home runs, 132 RBI, and 118 runs, and Warren Spahn won the Cy Young Award with a league-best 21 wins. Eddie Mathews added 32 homers, and midseason pickup Red Schoendienst solidified second base. Just four years removed from Boston, the Braves drew an NL-best 2.2 million-plus fans to Milwaukee County Stadium and became the first non-New York team to win it all since 1948.
