About Neil Chrisley
Barbra O'Neil "Neil" Chrisley — he went by his middle name — signed with the Boston Red Sox in 1950 and came to Washington in the November 1955 trade that sent Mickey Vernon to Boston. The 6-foot-3, left-handed-hitting outfielder debuted on April 15, 1957, singling off Baltimore's Billy Loes as an 11th-inning pinch hitter, then spent most of that summer at Triple-A Indianapolis, batting .343 with 15 home runs. Used chiefly as a pinch hitter and reserve, he played 302 games across five seasons with the Senators (1957-58), Detroit Tigers (1959-60), and Milwaukee Braves (1961), hitting .210 with 16 home runs and 64 RBI; he was packaged with Eddie Yost in the December 1958 trade to Detroit and with Frank Bolling in the 1960 deal that brought Billy Bruton to the Tigers. After baseball he worked as an insurance agent in Greenwood, South Carolina. Card #320, from 1957 Topps' scarce fourth series, is his Topps rookie card.
