About Bob Usher

Usher's last big league season was 1957, when he hit .257 with five home runs and 27 RBI in 106 games, split between Cleveland and Washington. Topps shows him with the Washington Senators on 1958 Topps #124, printed in the second series of the 494-card set. His neighbors on the checklist are Dick Tomanek #123 and Alvin Dark #125.

Robert Royce Usher, born March 1, 1925, in San Diego, California, was a right-handed outfielder who played parts of six major league seasons. The Cincinnati Reds signed him as a free agent before the 1943 season, and he made his debut on April 16, 1946, following naval service in World War II. He played for the Reds in 1946, 1947, 1950 and 1951, appeared in one game for the Chicago Cubs in 1952, and finished with the Cleveland Indians and Washington Senators in 1957. His busiest year came in 1950, when he hit .259 with six home runs and 35 RBI in 106 games, mostly in the outfield. Across 428 major league games he hit .235 with 18 home runs and 102 RBI. Usher died in San Jose, California, in 2014.
