1958 Topps #424 Larry Doby
Uncorrected error (per Beckett): first name spelled Lary on the back. It was never corrected, so there is only one version of the card.

About Larry Doby
Larry Doby (1923-2003) starred for the Newark Eagles of the Negro Leagues before Cleveland signed him in 1947. On July 5, 1947-eleven weeks after Jackie Robinson-he became the first Black player in the American League. A center fielder, Doby spent most of his career with Cleveland (1947-55, 1958) and was a seven-time All-Star. He led the AL in home runs in 1952 and 1954 and in RBIs in 1954, and in the 1948 World Series, which Cleveland won, his Game 4 home run was the first by a Black player in Series history. Doby hit 253 career home runs. In 1978 he managed the Chicago White Sox, becoming the second Black manager in major-league history, after Frank Robinson. Reacquired by Cleveland, he played there in a reduced role in 1958. Long overshadowed as a pioneer because he integrated the AL 'second,' Doby was elected to the Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee in 1998.
