About this card

Cards #151-158 tell the 1967 World Series game by game - the Cardinals over the Red Sox in seven - and close with #158, "The Cardinals Celebrate!". Six of the game cards are captioned for one player, from Lou Brock on #151 to Rico Petrocelli on #156.

The story on this card

Card 158 recalls Game 7 of the 1967 World Series, where Bob Gibson outdueled Jim Lonborg to clinch the title for St. Louis. Both aces had gone 2-0 in the Series, but Lonborg started on just two days' rest and could not match Gibson, who scattered three hits over a complete game and even homered off Lonborg in the fifth. Julian Javier added a three-run shot in the sixth, and Gibson cruised to a 7-2 win, closing out a 3-0 World Series record with a 1.00 ERA. It capped a Cardinals championship built on Lou Brock's speed, Orlando Cepeda's bat, and Roger Maris's clutch hitting after his trade from the Yankees.
