The story on this card

Card #157 is part of the 1968 Topps World Series subset, spotlighting Game 7 of the 1967 Fall Classic between the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. With the series tied at three games apiece, Bob Gibson started for St. Louis while Boston's Jim Lonborg took the mound on just two days' rest after his 3-1 complete-game win in Game 5. Entering the finale both pitchers were unbeaten in the series, Gibson at 2-0 with a single run and 11 hits allowed in 18 innings and Lonborg at 2-0 with a single run and four hits allowed in his own 18 innings, but Lonborg could not match Gibson on short rest. Gibson allowed only three hits and struck out ten over a complete game, and Julian Javier added a three-run homer off Lonborg in the sixth inning to break the game open. St. Louis won 7-2, clinching the championship and giving Gibson his second World Series title with the Cardinals in four years.
