Dalton Jones was a left-handed-hitting utility infielder who spent nine major league seasons with the Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers, from 1964 through 1972. A Mississippi native who starred at shortstop in Baton Rouge, he signed with Boston for a $60,000 bonus and worked his way up through the Red Sox system before debuting in 1964. He played second base, third base and first base for Boston across the rest of the decade, valued as a versatile bench option and a dangerous pinch-hitter. His best season came in 1967, when he hit a career-high .289, led the American League in pinch hits, and started at third base for Boston in the World Series. Traded to Detroit before the 1970 season, he closed out his career there and with Texas in 1972. Over 907 games he batted .235 with 41 home runs and 237 RBI.
