The story on this card
This World Series card recalls Game 5 of the 1967 Fall Classic, played at Busch Stadium in St. Louis with the Red Sox down three games to one. Ace Jim Lonborg took the mound on short rest against the Cardinals' Steve Carlton and delivered again, allowing just two hits over 8 and two-thirds innings for a 3-1 complete-game win. Boston's lone early run scored in the third when Ken Harrelson singled home Joe Foy, and Lonborg retired 12 batters in a row at one stretch before Roger Maris broke up the shutout with a ninth-inning home run. The win forced Game 6 and kept Boston's championship hopes alive. Card #155, from the set's second series, is part of the 1968 Topps World Series subset and pictures Lonborg on the mound.
