1968 Topps #512 Grant Jackson

About Grant Jackson
Jackson closed 1968 with new manager Bob Skinner, who reworked his pitching delivery and sped up his pace on the mound, changes credited with helping him take a step forward the following season. His card, number 512, sits in print series 6, issued with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Grant Jackson was a left-handed pitcher who spent eighteen seasons in the majors, debuting with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1965 and finishing with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1982. Signed out of Fostoria, Ohio by Phillies scout Tony Lucadello, he broke into the rotation as a starter before reinventing himself as a bullpen specialist with the Baltimore Orioles. He earned his only All-Star selection in 1969 while still a Phillies starter, then went 8-0 with a 1.90 ERA for Baltimore in 1973. A mid-season 1976 trade sent him to the New York Yankees for a pennant race, and he later helped Pittsburgh win the 1979 World Series, picking up the win in Game Seven. He also pitched for the Montreal Expos and Kansas City Royals, closing out a career built on a sinking fastball and a durable arm out of the bullpen.
