About Mike Andrews

A year later, Andrews' 1968 Topps card, #502, is a sixth-series card for the Red Sox and comes a year after his rookie card. Coming off his strong rookie season, Andrews remained Boston's regular second baseman in 1968's pitching-dominated year, battling for the league batting lead into September before finishing at .271 with 7 home runs and 45 RBIs over 147 games, along with a career-high 22 doubles and 145 hits.

Mike Andrews was a second baseman who spent most of his eight big-league seasons with the Boston Red Sox before finishing his career with the Chicago White Sox and Oakland Athletics. Born in Los Angeles and raised in Torrance, California, he turned down a football scholarship path to sign with Boston, then worked his way up through the farm system as a shortstop before shifting to second base, where he became a steady everyday player. He made one All-Star team and played in the 1967 and 1973 World Series, winning a title with Oakland in 1973 despite being at the center of a widely publicized benching controversy after two costly errors in that Series. After retiring as a player, Andrews spent decades as a fundraiser for the Jimmy Fund, the Boston-based cancer charity affiliated with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, eventually serving as its chairman.
