The story on this card
Rohr's 1968 Topps card, #314, from the set's fourth print series, lists him with the Boston Red Sox and pairs him with George Spriggs in a Rookie Stars subset; his rookie card is his 1967 Topps issue. By the time the card appeared, Rohr had already been traded to Cleveland, where he made 17 relief appearances that season, going 1-0 with a 6.87 ERA and one save; it proved to be his final big league season before he moved on to the minors and later Detroit's organization. Billy Rohr made his major league debut on Opening Day 1967 at Yankee Stadium, carrying a no-hitter into the ninth against the Yankees before a single broke it up; his career lasted parts of two seasons with Boston and Cleveland.
Spriggs did not appear in a major league game in 1968: after Boston took him in the Rule 5 draft, he failed to stick on the Red Sox roster and was returned to Pittsburgh in April 1968. His 1968 Topps Rookie Stars card, shared with Bill Rohr, was part of the fourth print series. A speedy reserve outfielder who stole 170 bases in the minors for Columbus, George Spriggs played for the Pirates and Royals between 1965 and 1970.
