About Andy Etchebarren
Etchebarren hit .243 with 4 home runs and 28 RBI for Baltimore in 1970, sharing the catching with Elrod Hendricks. He started World Series Games 3 and 5 against Cincinnati, catching victories by Dave McNally and Mike Cuellar, and went 1-for-7 at bat. His Orioles card, #213, came in the second series.
Andy Etchebarren caught for Baltimore, California and Milwaukee over 15 major league seasons, finishing with 615 hits, 49 home runs and a .235 average. Harry Dalton signed him for the Orioles in 1961 out of La Puente High School in California. Etchebarren and Dave McNally made their major league debuts together on September 26, 1962, when McNally pitched a two-hit shutout. At an Orioles pool party in 1966, Etchebarren helped rescue Frank Robinson, who could not swim. After his playing career, he ran a racquetball club before returning as Milwaukee's minor league catching instructor. He later coached on Baltimore's bench in 1996 and 1997 and managed the York Revolution to Atlantic League titles in 2010 and 2011.
