About Bob Priddy

Card #687, a high number from the seventh series, pictures Bob Priddy with the Braves. In 1970 he pitched 41 games, none as a starter, and went 5-5 with a 5.42 ERA and 8 saves. He struck out 32 batters in 73 innings and went 3 for 15 at the plate.

Robert Simpson Priddy, a right-handed pitcher out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, signed with his hometown Pirates in 1959 and spent thirteen years in professional baseball. He reached the majors in September 1962 and worked in relief and as an occasional starter across parts of nine big-league seasons for six clubs: the Pirates, Giants, Senators, White Sox, Angels, and Braves. In 1966 with San Francisco he went 6-0 in relief, and in 1968 with Chicago he logged a career-high 114 innings and 18 starts. A February 1965 trade sent him to the Giants for catcher Del Crandall, and a later swap with Washington brought pitcher Mike McCormick back to San Francisco. Atlanta acquired him in September 1969 along with knuckleballer Hoyt Wilhelm. He finished his career with the Braves in 1971, closing out with a 24-38 record, a 4.00 ERA, and 18 saves over 249 games. Priddy died in 2023 at age 83.
