About Marty Pattin

Pattin went 14-12 with a 3.39 ERA for Milwaukee in 1970. He completed 11 games and struck out 161 batters in 233 1/3 innings, and his ERA fell by more than two runs from 1969. Topps still identified him as a Seattle Pilot on first-series card #31.

Marty Pattin worked as both a starter and reliever during 13 major league seasons from 1968 through 1980 with the California Angels, Seattle Pilots, Milwaukee Brewers, Boston Red Sox and Kansas City Royals. The right-hander made 224 starts in 475 appearances. He finished with 114 wins, a 3.62 ERA and 1,179 strikeouts. He earned an All-Star selection with Milwaukee in 1971. At Eastern Illinois University, he struck out 22 of the 27 batters he retired against Illinois State on April 23, 1965. The Angels selected him in the seventh round of that year's draft. Nicknamed Duck for his Donald Duck impersonation, Pattin later coached the University of Kansas baseball team from 1982 through 1987.
