About this card

Cards #195-202 cover the 1969 league playoffs: #195-198 the National League series won by the New York Mets and #199-202 the American League series won by the Baltimore Orioles. The six World Series cards, #305-310, follow later in the set.

The story on this card

The Mets swept Atlanta three games to none in the first NLCS, in 1969, and the pennant came in their eighth year of existence, the fastest for an expansion club in the National League until the 1997 Marlins. They had won 100 games and taken the East Division by eight games after trailing the Cubs by 10 games in mid-August. The Braves, led by Hank Aaron, Orlando Cepeda and Phil Niekro, were favored. The three games produced 42 runs and 11 home runs. Aaron hit three for Atlanta, and Tommie Agee and Ken Boswell hit two each for New York. The Mets won 9-5, 11-6 and 7-4. Topps #198, the Mets' celebration card, was printed in series 2.
