The story on this card
Nolan Ryan earned his first postseason victory in Game 3 of the 1969 NLCS, played October 6 at Shea Stadium before 54,195. Gary Gentry, starting on his 23rd birthday, gave up Hank Aaron's two-run first-inning homer and lasted two innings. Orlando Cepeda's two-run shot off Ryan in the fifth put Atlanta back ahead 4-3. In the bottom of that inning Ryan singled with one out and Wayne Garrett homered to make it 5-4 Mets. Ryan pitched seven innings in relief. Ken Boswell had a two-run homer in the fourth and an RBI single later, and Jerry Grote's double and Tommie Agee's single added a run, for a 7-4 win and a three-game sweep that sent New York to its first World Series. Topps #197 in the 1970 Playoffs subset names Ryan and was printed in series 2.
