1971 Topps #671 Bill Voss

About Bill Voss
Bill Voss beat out Rick Reichardt for the Angels' right field job in 1970 after a .385 spring, then hit .243 with three home runs and 30 RBI. California acquired Tony Conigliaro and Ken Berry that winter, and on January 28, 1971 it sent Voss to the Milwaukee Brewers for pitcher Gene Brabender. His #671 card, from the sixth series of the 1971 Topps set, shows him with the Brewers.
William Edward Voss, an outfielder from Glendale, California, spent eight major-league seasons with the Chicago White Sox, California Angels, Milwaukee Brewers, Oakland Athletics and St. Louis Cardinals. A left-handed hitter, he graduated from Newport Harbor High School, played at Orange Coast College and Long Beach State, and signed with Detroit before the White Sox claimed him in the first-year draft. He made his debut on September 14, 1965, pinch-running for Smoky Burgess, and got his first hit, a home run off Denny McLain, on September 21. Injuries shaped much of his career, including a fractured jaw from a Pete Richert pitch in 1968 and a broken wrist in 1970. In 1969 with the Angels he hit .261 in 133 games and drove in 40 runs. He finished his career in 1972 after brief stints with three clubs.
