1971 Topps #672 Ed Crosby

About Ed Crosby
Crosby's first Topps card is #672 in the sixth print series, a rookie card with the Cardinals. In 1970 he hit .300 in 78 games for the Arkansas Travelers before his promotion to St. Louis. He played 38 games for the Cardinals that year, mostly at shortstop, and batted .253. He spent the 1971 season at Triple-A Tulsa.
Ed Crosby was a left-handed-hitting infielder, mostly a shortstop and second baseman, who played 297 major league games from 1970 to 1976 for the St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians. Born May 26, 1949, in Long Beach, California, he played at Long Beach City College and was a second-round pick of the Cardinals in the January phase of the 1969 draft. He reached St. Louis in July 1970, and after his fielding slipped at shortstop he tried second base with Ken Boyer's backing. The Cardinals sent him to the Reds in July 1973, and after the Phillies took him in the December 1973 Rule 5 draft, the Cardinals bought back his contract and sent him to Cleveland with Luis Alvarado for Jack Heidemann. The Angels acquired him from Cleveland in December 1976 for outfielder Marty Friedman. He hit .220 for his career with 44 RBI. His son Bobby Crosby was the 2004 American League Rookie of the Year.
