1971 Topps #707 Fred Lasher

About Fred Lasher
In 1970 Fred Lasher pitched a career-high 55 games for Detroit and Cleveland. He went 2-10 with a 4.18 ERA and 8 saves. His only major league start turned into a brawl when he hit Tony Conigliaro with a pitch and Conigliaro charged the mound. The Angels drafted him from Cleveland on November 30, and he worked two games for them in 1971. His 1971 Topps card is #707, in the sixth series, and shows him with the Angels.
Frederick Walter Lasher, born August 19, 1941, in Poughkeepsie, New York, was a 6-foot-3 right-handed sidearm relief pitcher who spent six major league seasons with the Minnesota Twins, Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Indians and California Angels. Signed by the original Washington Senators organization in 1960, he climbed through the Twins' farm system, where teammates nicknamed him "Whip" for his sidearm delivery, and debuted in the majors in 1963 at age 21. The Tigers acquired him from the Twins via the November 1966 minor league draft, and he returned to the big leagues in August 1967, saving nine games that year and pitching in relief for Detroit's 1968 championship team. His only trade sent him from Detroit to Cleveland in May 1970. He closed out his career in 1971 with the California Angels. Over 151 games, Lasher went 11-13 with 22 saves and a 3.88 ERA. He died February 27, 2022, at age 80.
