1974 Topps #387 Rich Morales

About Rich Morales
Morales split 1973 between the White Sox and the Padres, playing 97 games and hitting .161. His 1974 Topps card, #387, shows him with San Diego. Fifteen Padres cards, this one among them, were first printed, while a move to the capital was rumored, with the team name Washington Nat'l Lea. The corrected San Diego printing is the common one. He played 54 games for the 1974 Padres, and his last major league game came on October 2.
Rich Morales was an infielder who spent eight seasons in the majors with the Chicago White Sox and San Diego Padres, from 1967 through 1974. Born in San Francisco and listed at 5 feet 11 inches and 170 pounds, he threw and batted right-handed and played shortstop, second base and third base. His career line finished at .195 with 6 home runs and 64 RBI over 480 games. After retiring as a player, Morales managed in the minor leagues from 1979 until 1982 and from 1988 until 1991. He was an Atlanta Braves coach in 1987, on the staff of his former White Sox manager, Chuck Tanner, and worked in the farm systems of the Oakland Athletics, Chicago Cubs and Seattle Mariners.
