About this card

Cards #701-711 are the eleven four-player Rookie Prospects cards. A Rookie Prospects card is a rookie card for the players on it who had no earlier Topps flagship card - on #702, #707, #708 and #711 one of the four is not a rookie, so those count for the other three only, and the rookie-card answer on each card names the players it counts for.

The story on this card

Nahorodny caught 104 games for the 1978 White Sox and hit .236 with 8 home runs. His rookie card is the four-player Rookie Prospects card #702, where he is printed with Chicago beside Kevin Pasley of the Mariners, Rick Sweet of the Padres and Don Werner of the Reds. Catcher for the Phillies, White Sox, Braves, Indians, Tigers and Mariners from 1976 to 1984. Drafted in the sixth round in 1972, he caught regularly for Chicago in 1978 and finished with 25 home runs in 308 games.

Pasley made Seattle's roster out of spring training, but a .115 stretch over 10 games ended on May 2 with a demotion to San Jose. There he hit .261 with three home runs in 98 games. He came back in late August and finished the season at .241 in 25 games for Seattle. His card is #702, a Rookie Prospects four-up printed with the Mariners alongside Bill Nahorodny (White Sox), Rick Sweet (Padres) and Don Werner (Reds). Catcher who played 55 major league games for the Dodgers and Mariners between 1974 and 1978, hitting .254. He hit his only home run in his last big-league at-bat and played in the minors through 1982.

Sweet moved up to the Triple-A Hawaii Islanders in 1977. His rookie card, 1978 Topps #702 in the Rookie Prospects subset, paired him as a Padre with Bill Nahorodny of the White Sox, Kevin Pasley of the Mariners and Don Werner of the Reds. Sweet collected his first major league hit off Atlanta's Dick Ruthven on April 13, 1978. Rick Sweet led the Northwest League with a .350 batting average and 66 RBIs for Walla Walla in 1975, dividing his playing time between catcher and first base.

Werner caught Tom Seaver's 4-0 no-hitter against St. Louis on June 16, 1978, while filling in for injured Reds catcher Johnny Bench. He appeared in 50 games that season. His rookie card, 1978 Topps #702, shared the Rookie Prospects card with Bill Nahorodny of the White Sox, Kevin Pasley of the Mariners and Rick Sweet of the Padres. Reds catcher Don Werner was hit by a Dave Freisleben pitch in his September 2, 1975 debut. On September 14, he collected his first major-league hit, a single off Giants pitcher Greg Minton.
