About Mark Belanger

On June 3, 1977, Belanger tagged Freddie Patek and Dave Nelson to complete a game-ending triple play against Kansas City. His errorless streak ended on August 20 after 62 games, 48 of them starts. He batted .206 in 144 games that season. Topps listed him with Baltimore on #315 in 1978.

Mark Belanger spent 17 seasons with Baltimore and one with the Los Angeles Dodgers, winning eight Gold Gloves at shortstop and a World Series championship with the 1970 Orioles. His tall, narrow frame earned him the nickname The Blade. Baltimore signed him out of Pittsfield High School in 1962 for $35,000, and he reached the majors as a pinch-runner on August 7, 1965. Across 18 seasons he collected 1,316 hits and batted .228. He served as the Orioles' player representative, took part in the 1981 strike negotiations and worked for the players' association after retiring. Baltimore inducted him into its team Hall of Fame in 1983.
