1978 Topps #681 Rob Belloir

About Rob Belloir
Topps issued Belloir's Braves card as #681 in 1978. He split his seasons from 1976 through 1978 between Atlanta and Richmond, the Braves' triple-A affiliate. His 1978 major league time came to two games, one at third base and one at shortstop, and he went 1-for-1. His final game came on September 29.
Rob Belloir was a shortstop who played 81 major league games for the Atlanta Braves between 1975 and 1978, hitting .216 with 13 RBI. Born in Heidelberg, Germany, he was the 25th German-born player in the majors. He attended Southwest High School in Atlanta, worked as an usher at Ponce de Leon Park and Atlanta Stadium, and played basketball and baseball at Mercer University, earning an English degree in 1970. Cleveland drafted him in the eighth round in 1969, and he spent two years in the Army, including a six-month deployment to Vietnam, without touching a baseball. Cleveland sent him to the Braves as the player to be named later in the 1975 deal for Roric Harrison that also sent Blue Moon Odom to Atlanta. He was called up when Marty Perez broke a thumb, debuted on August 2, 1975, and went 4-for-4 with four RBI against St. Louis on August 22. Mercer inducted him into its Hall of Fame in 1981. He died in November 2023 at 75.
