1979 Topps #287 Andres Mora

About Andres Mora
The Orioles optioned Mora to Rochester in their second-last round of cuts before Opening Day 1979, and Rochester sent him back to Saltillo, where he hit 23 home runs with 102 RBI and a .344 average. Cleveland took him in the major league draft on December 3. His Orioles card is #287.
Andres Mora was a Mexican right-handed outfielder who played parts of four major league seasons, 1976 to 1980, for the Baltimore Orioles and Cleveland Indians, hitting 27 home runs. He won his first Mexican League home run title in 1975 with Saltillo, and Baltimore bought his contract that August. After a 1980 spell in Cleveland he returned home by choice, still 24, and played in the Mexican League until 1997 for Saltillo, Nuevo Laredo and Monterrey. He retired with 419 Mexican League home runs, behind only Hector Espino at the time, and won four summer home run crowns and three in the Mexican Pacific League. He reached a personal best of 41 homers in 1985 with the Tecolotes and hit over .300 for eight straight seasons from 1983 to 1990. He was elected to the Mexican Professional Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003 and was named left fielder of the league's centennial all-time team in 2025. Mora died in Saltillo in 2015.
