About Bert Campaneris

Campaneris played 89 games at shortstop for Texas in 1978 and drove in 17 runs. His 1979 Topps #620 still lists the Rangers. On May 4, 1979, Texas traded him to the California Angels for Dave Chalk. He stole 3 bases against his former club in a 5-4 Angels victory on June 20.

Bert Campaneris played nineteen major league seasons, principally at shortstop, and finished with 649 stolen bases. He led the American League in steals six times and was selected for six All-Star teams. In his 1964 debut with Kansas City, he homered off Jim Kaat on the first pitch he faced and hit another home run in the seventh inning. His career later took him to Texas, California and the Yankees; he finished with 2,249 hits and a .259 average. After playing, Campaneris coached defense and baserunning for Japan's Seibu Lions. The Athletics inducted him into their team Hall of Fame in 2019.
