1979 Topps #619 Ken Landreaux

About Ken Landreaux
The Angels sent Landreaux, Dave Engle, Paul Hartzell and Brad Havens to Minnesota for Rod Carew on February 3, 1979. His rookie card, 1979 Topps #619, still listed him with California. In his first Twins season he batted .305 with 15 home runs and 83 RBI.
Ken Landreaux was a left-handed-hitting center fielder for the Angels, Twins and Dodgers. California selected him sixth overall in the 1976 draft out of Arizona State. He had hit .413 with 112 hits and 87 RBI in his final college season. At El Paso and Salt Lake City in 1977, he batted a combined .357 with 27 home runs and earned Topps' Minor League Player of the Year award. He recorded 3 outfield assists in his September 11 major league debut. With Minnesota in 1980, Landreaux put together a 31-game hitting streak and made the American League All-Star team. The Dodgers acquired him for Mickey Hatcher and 2 minor leaguers in March 1981. That October, he caught Bob Watson's fly ball for the final out of the World Series. Landreaux stole 31 bases in 1982 and 30 in 1983, when he hit a career-high 17 home runs. He batted .389 in the 1985 National League Championship Series. After 11 major league seasons, his totals included 1,099 hits and 145 stolen bases. He later taught young players at the Urban Youth Academy in Compton.
