A native of Brenham, Texas, he was drafted by Boston in the sixth round in 1968, and he reached the 1975 World Series with them as a platoon player. Afterward he worked as an agent, a Brewers farm director and coach, and managed the Houston Astros from late 2007 to September 2009, going 171-170.
