1979 Topps #667 Don Hood

About Don Hood
Hood appeared in 40 games in 1979, 27 of them with the Yankees, where he posted a 3.07 ERA. For the season he finished 4-1 with a 3.22 ERA and two saves, and six of the appearances were starts. His #667 card still lists the Indians, the club for which he had pitched since 1975.
Don Hood was a left-handed pitcher who worked as both starter and reliever in the majors between 1973 and 1983. The Baltimore Orioles took him in the first round, 17th overall, of the 1969 draft, and he debuted on July 16, 1973, in relief of Jesse Jefferson in a 7-5 win at Oakland. He pitched for Baltimore in that year's ALCS, which Oakland won 3-2. In February 1975 he and Boog Powell went to Cleveland for Dave Duncan and outfield prospect Alvin McGrew. He stayed four and a half seasons with the Indians. Cleveland sent him to the Yankees for Cliff Johnson in 1979. He signed with St. Louis in March 1980, then pitched for Kansas City in 1982 and 1983, finishing with a 2.27 ERA in 27 games in his last season. His final game came on October 2, 1983, at Oakland. He finished 34-35 with a 3.79 ERA in 297 games. Hood died in 2023.
