1979 Topps #386 Francisco Barrios

About Francisco Barrios
Barrios was 8-3 with a 3.61 ERA in 15 starts for the White Sox in 1979, working 94 2/3 innings and striking out 28, before the injury that ended his season. His White Sox card in that year's set is #386.
Francisco Barrios was a Mexican right-handed starter from Hermosillo who spent his entire major league career, 1974 to 1981, with the Chicago White Sox. Chicago acquired him from the Charros de Jalisco of the Mexican League for shortstop Rudy Hernandez. He joined the rotation in 1976 and on July 28 combined with Blue Moon Odom on a 2-1 no-hitter of the Oakland Athletics at the Coliseum. His most productive season came in 1977. Rotator cuff surgery on September 25, 1979 and a swollen elbow in 1981 cut into his later years, and the White Sox released him on September 1, 1981. He finished 38-38 with a 4.15 ERA and 323 strikeouts in 129 games. He was preparing to sign with Milwaukee when he died of a heart attack on April 9, 1982, at age 28.
