About Greg Luzinski

Luzinski hit .252 with 18 home runs and 81 RBIs in 1979, and one of those homers reached the fifth level at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh. Pirates rookie catcher Steve Nicosia watched him crowd the batter's box and wondered how they would get a pitch by him. His #540, with the All-Star banner earned the previous year, shows him as a Phillie.

Greg Luzinski was a right-handed slugging left fielder for the Philadelphia Phillies from 1970 to 1980, then a designated hitter for the Chicago White Sox through 1984. He hit .276 with 307 home runs and 1,128 RBIs and was a National League All-Star every year from 1975 through 1978. The Bull, as he was known, reportedly picked up the nickname at Triple-A Eugene for his thick chest and productive bat. In the 1980 NLCS he belted a two-run homer in Game 1 and a pinch-hit double in Game 4, hits that helped carry Philadelphia to its first World Series title. With the White Sox he hit 32 home runs as a DH in 1983, a record at that time. Born in Chicago, he was drafted 11th overall in 1968 out of Notre Dame High School. He was inducted into the National Polish-American Sports Hall of Fame in 1989 and the Phillies Wall of Fame in 1998, and later opened Bull's Barbecue at Citizens Bank Park.
