1979 Topps #542 Rick Bosetti

About Rick Bosetti
Bosetti played all 162 games for Toronto in 1979, every one of them in the outfield. He hit .260 with 8 home runs and 65 RBI. He led American League outfielders in putouts, assists and errors. Topps #542 shows him with the Blue Jays.
Rick Bosetti was a right-handed outfielder who played seven seasons in the majors, for the Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals, Toronto Blue Jays and Oakland Athletics. The Phillies drafted him in the seventh round in 1973 out of Shasta College, and he debuted on September 9, 1976. In Toronto he became one of the early Blue Jays' most popular players, partly because he was the only member of the team who lived in the city year-round. He was teammates with pitcher Tom Underwood on all four of his clubs. He reached the 1981 postseason with Oakland and was released by the Athletics on September 6, 1982. Afterward he returned to Redding, California, where he went into local business and politics. He was elected to the Redding City Council in 2006, served as mayor, and ran for the California State Assembly in 2012, losing to Brian Dahle by about 2-1. He also coached the Simpson University baseball team and became general manager of the Redding Colt 45s collegiate team.
