About Bobby Adams

Robert Henry Adams (1921-1997), a right-handed-hitting infielder from Tuolumne County, California, and a World War II Army Air Forces veteran, reached the majors with the Cincinnati Reds in 1946 and spent 14 seasons in the big leagues. He played primarily third base and second base for the Reds/Redlegs (1946-1955), Chicago White Sox (1955), Baltimore Orioles (1956) and Chicago Cubs (1957-1959). His finest year came in 1952, when he led the National League in games (154), at-bats (637) and singles (152) while batting .283 with career highs of 180 hits and 25 doubles, drawing down-ballot MVP consideration. Over 1,281 games he hit .269 with 1,082 hits, 37 home runs, 303 RBI and 67 stolen bases; he was never named an All-Star. After retiring he stayed in the game as a Chicago Cubs coach and member of the club's "College of Coaches," and later served as president of the Triple-A Tacoma Cubs. His brother Dick Adams and son Mike Adams also reached the majors, making the Adamses a three-player big-league family.
