About the 1957 Boston Red Sox

The 1957 Boston Red Sox, managed by Pinky Higgins and playing at Fenway Park, finished third in the American League with an 82-72 record, 16 games behind the pennant-winning New York Yankees. The season belonged to Ted Williams, who at age 38 led the league with a .388 batting average, added 38 home runs and 87 RBIs, and was named Associated Press Athlete of the Year. Right fielder Jackie Jensen and third baseman Frank Malzone each drove in 103 runs to share the team RBI lead, and Malzone won a Gold Glove for his defense. As an American League club, Boston was untouched by the relocation drama that saw the National League's Dodgers and Giants leave New York after 1957.
