1957 Topps #161 Pittsburgh Pirates
About the 1957 Pittsburgh Pirates
The 1957 Pittsburgh Pirates finished 62-92, tied with the Chicago Cubs for last place in the eight-team National League. It was a transitional year for a rebuilding club: manager Bobby Bragan was fired in early August with the team 36-67, and Danny Murtaugh took over, going 26-25 the rest of the way in the first of his several stints as Pirates skipper. Playing home games at Forbes Field, the roster featured young cornerstones of the club that would win the 1960 World Series, including 22-year-old outfielder Roberto Clemente, shortstop Dick Groat, and second baseman Bill Mazeroski, while Frank Thomas led the team with 23 home runs and Bob Friend anchored the pitching staff.
