Ted Kazanski - 1957 Topps #27
1957 Topps #27 Ted Kazanski

About Ted Kazanski
Ted Kazanski was one of baseball's celebrated "bonus babies," signing with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1951 for a reported $100,000. The Hamtramck, Michigan shortstop debuted at 19 in June 1953 and announced himself immediately, lashing two doubles and a single while driving in four runs. He spent his entire six-year major-league career (1953-58) as a Phillies infielder, batting .217 with 14 home runs and 116 RBI in 417 games at shortstop, second and third base. His signature day came on August 8, 1956, when he hit an inside-the-park grand slam and started a triple play in the same game. In 1957 — the season this card, which lists him at second base, was issued — he split time between Triple-A and Philadelphia and posted a career-best .265 average in 62 games. Traded to the Milwaukee Braves with Stan Lopata in 1959, he never returned to the majors, later coaching in the Detroit Tigers organization and at his alma mater, the University of Detroit Mercy.
