About Ken Lehman

Lehman's 1958 Topps card is #141, a Series Two card that shows him with the Baltimore Orioles, and it falls between Wes Covington #140 and Enos Slaughter #142. That season he worked 31 games, all but one in relief, going 2-1 with a 3.48 ERA over 62 innings and striking out 36.

Ken Lehman was a left-handed reliever from Seattle who signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers out of Kirkland High School in 1946. He reached the Pacific Coast League's Hollywood Stars in 1950 before enlisting in the Army during the Korean War. After his discharge he debuted with the Dodgers in 1952 and pitched two scoreless innings in Game 2 of that year's World Series against the New York Yankees. Three years with the Montreal Royals followed, then he stayed with Brooklyn all of 1956. The Baltimore Orioles purchased him in mid-1957, and he thrived as a left-handed specialist and spot starter, going 8-3 with six saves. He pitched for Baltimore through 1958, spent 1959 and 1960 with the Buffalo Bisons, and returned to the majors with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1961. He retired after 1962 with a 14-10 major league record and a 3.91 ERA, plus 141 minor league wins. Lehman coached at the University of Washington from 1964 to 1971 and worked in the Mount Baker School District for 31 years.
