The story on this card
The 1967 Topps Rookie Stars card #507 teams Barnowski with catcher Larry Haney under the Orioles banner, issued in the set's sixth print series. By the time the card appeared, Barnowski had already made his final major league appearance, closing his two-season Baltimore trial with a 2.45 ERA over six relief outings. The Orioles went on to win the 1966 World Series with a pitching staff drawn from the same farm system. A hard-throwing Orioles farmhand who twice earned a September call-up to Baltimore, working strictly in relief before control trouble and military service cut his big league window short.
Haney's 1967 Topps card (#507) is a Rookie Stars issue shared with fellow Baltimore Oriole Ed Barnowski, part of the set's sixth series. The season pictured was his best offensively: in 58 games backing up Andy Etchebarren, Haney hit .268 with 3 home runs and 20 RBI, a career-high average, as the defending World Series champion Orioles slipped to a sixth-place finish. Larry Haney was a light-hitting, sure-handed backup catcher who caught for four organizations across 12 seasons, homered in his second big-league at-bat, and was on Oakland's roster for the Athletics' 1974 World Series championship.
